Do the engine block numbers mean anything? Can you trace date of manufacture or if it was a SU vs Solex engine? Dana S

Unfortunately, no. While the engine numbers did generally increase over time, they weren't really consistent, nor was anything recorded. So you will find cars that are "near" each other in VIN number

One problem was that the solex setup could be added as a dealer option. New tag and all. So factory records would still not be accurate. Of course that brings up the question, original as it left the
