- I have one of each - plus a homemade one that my dad created about 30 years ago because he couldn't find the original. The original is a hardened steel whereas the newer replacements are much softer.

- The new ones are softer. After you dress it on a grinding wheel, heat the tip cherry red, then immediately quench it. That should harden it enough for that job. (Mine shows no wear after heat treatin
