Did a compression test on my '71 TR6 and would like to know what the group thinks the problem(s) is(are). The odometer reads 84295, but it read the same back in '91! (From old title). But I think it

Hadn't thought of that. If the engine is running hot and using coolant, it would be a bad head gasket. Philip E. Barnes '71 TR6 CC61193L Cornell University Newman Laboratory of Nuclear Studies Ithaca

After the recommended tune-up, valve adjustment, etc I would do the next step in a compression test. (Note that the valve adjustment should be done before this step!) Re-do the compression test for e

Length: 867 Jeff, A "leakdown" test is what will tell you for sure. It's a test in which the cyl is pressurized with shop air and you can listen for where the leakage is occuring. It's hard to do a g

The numbers aren't that bad, but I have two suggestions. If the car has really been sitting for a while, you might have leaky valves or some such. To really know why the compression varies, you shul

I agree. It's quite possible that the other classic signs of a blown head gasket - oil globules in the coolant, coolant being burned out the exhaust, overheating - could be absent if the head gasket
