- Get a local shop to rebuild it. There's nothing mysterious about a Lucas starter and any good electrical shop should be able to do the job cheaper than buying a "rebuilt" unit from LBC houses. Jim D

- Speaking of starters, I was wondering about these gear reduction starters I've seen. VB has one in their catalog. What's the advantage besides a lower ratio allowing the starter to spin faster? -- S

- Well it just isn't that they spin faster, they produce more torque as well. This allows them to turn your engine over more easily, resulting in quicker starts... of course, I've never had a problem
