I had this modification done on my bearing cap out of necessity. The crank had pretty much ground the slot into the cap when the previous thrust washers fell out. It was either this or a new block.

Hi Dick. It was necessary to do this to mine. The crank had milled out a slot in the bearing cap already and the second thrust washer was needed just to hold the other one in place. I'm not sure whet
