In the past, I've used one BFH to back up the shock arm, put a plain nut on the end of the threaded section, and used another BFH to knock it loose. With care and practice, you can get it apart with

If the TR3 is like the TR4, there are no space limitations because one can remove the whole assembly from the car. I strongly recommend "Allen" socket-head cap screws for mounting the shock absorber
