Are these shelving units to be freestanding or wall mounted? Either way if you have welding ability or access to a MIG machine, and a saw, very heavy duty units can be made at a fraction of the cost

I've done the shelf bit a number of times and different ways. If it was me and don't need something real special, I'd go to Lowes/HomeDepot/HomeBase and check out what they have in the HD shelving.

I purchased COSTCO'S Gorilla shelving (this was a couple of years ago, I assume they still carry it). It is *very* sturdy. I wouldn't hesitate to put a transmission on it, I'd save the bottom shelf
