You should be able to get those electrodes close just by using one washer of the right thickness. They make kits for this operation that can be purchased at most auto parts stores. I think they are

On a normal set up I agree with you, butr if you spend the cash on the other HP improvments why not take the time to index? It should at least make you feel you have done all you can do for the buck
