Try removing the sump and wedge a decent sized lump of wood between the crank and the engine block, that should stop the crank from turning. Last time I had this problem the engine was still in the c

this is a valid though not safe method. Try not to have anyone in the vicinity, if the wrench starts flying you're dead meat. Another method not mentioned is removing the starter, wedging the starter
