I use a Redline product, which is rated something like 85W140, in our Ferrari's rear end (which calls for something between 140 and 250W, depending on application). Seems to work fine, diff doesn't g

I have purchased it at 4-wheel drive shops in my area. I use 140 in my "locked" differential. In fact, if memory serves, I believe I even used a synthetic 140 last change............. Ed

Don't know why you wouldn't be able to get 140-wt gear oil. Here in Texas our warehouse sells it all the time. We have 31 quarts in stock at the moment. You should be able to find it locally. Rex Bur

I checked on Pennzoil and Havoline's websites and they do make it. 85w-140, mostly, which is just fine. I don't know why that man at the implement place told me over the phone that it is getting hard

I would guess instead that it is becoming less popular. 140 wt was mostly required in the past to get high film strength, but apparently better additives and synthetic oils have reduced the need. I c
