Hi all, I'm looking for some help with bending tubing. I'm trying to make something which will require some sharp successive 90 degree bends in tubing. I will be using some tubing ~1-1.5" o.d. (undec

Try taking it to your local exhaust system shop. Most of them don't stock pipes anymore, but bend straight pipe to fit. See if they can bent it for you. If you need something heavier try an electica

I think the advice given by Bob (below) is good, and easilly the best bet. The issue of distorting the tube reminded me of stories my father has told me of when he was a plumbing apprentice before WW

Mike asks: something You can buy mandrel bends from exhaust suppliers (specify tubing dia. and radius of bend) then piece them together as required, although 1-1.5" od might be outside their range. I

having just tried and failed to sand-bend 1.5" 16Ga. steel tubing, I'd say that you may need to go to a specialist shop to get this done. But I have two ideas. One idea is to fill the tubes with molt

If you decide to make a sand bend, it is important to drill a small hole in one of the end plates to allow any steam to escape. When you make the bend, try not to elongate the tubing in the bend. San

How well do those hydraulic tubing benders that you see in Harbor Freight and other stores work? Judging from the catalog pic, the radius wouldn't be as tight as Mike needs (unless maybe he can use a

Two more cents worth on bending mild steel tubing. Trying to bend two 90 degree bends 3 inches apart in 1-1/2 inch by 1/8 inch thick tubing? I think this may be pushing the envelope a little! That's

Mike, Unless you really live in the boon docks, why not take the tubing to a muffler shop and see what they's charge to bend it for you. I've done this before, and they didn't charge me. That's the k

For what it's worth, you can get mandrel tubing benders from Harbor Freight (and others I'm sure) for $100 - $200. They are not professional quality (they will take longer to set up for each bend), b

Another way of not distorting the tubing is to put a spring that fits tightly inside the pipe; this works better w/ copper pipe than iron, but with a stiff spring, it might help/work. Good luck! Sco

If you're referring to the bender that has a hydraulic jack, dies and rollers, and the jack is used in the verticle position...they sell this as a pipe bender, not a tubing bender. It works okay on p
