If anyone has info, I'm looking for a replacement engine for my Mk1A ... a 260, preferrably, so as to avoid complexities of conversion to 289 or 302. Maybe there's someone out there who removed and s

Why not look for a Fairlane 289? It is outwardly identical to the 260. Same number of freeze plugs, same exterior casting shapes. I've not heard of any complexities of changing to this engine. It's w

Curt, Duncan, and Bob, Just an added thought about the 5 bolt 289's. This is the ONLY 289 that was in an Shelby AC Cobra! No 6 bolts. -- Steve Laifman < Find out what is most > B9472289 < important i

Related - somebody today offered me a 66 HiPo 289 engine which I am sorely tempted to take them up on. Can someone remind me how to tell if it is a genuine HiPo? Chris Thompson

Chris Williams wins the trivia quiz of the day by pointing out that Ford discontinued the 5-bolt bell housing in favor of the 6-bolt pattern in August, 1965.

August 1965? That date strikes me as late. That date is very close to the changeover date for the 1966 model year at Ford. That means that almost all 1965 Mustangs would have 5 bolt bell housings. I
