Can a TR6 A-Type overdrive transmission be used in a TR3? I heard that the input shaft is different. If this would make it not work, is there any conversion that could be done using parts from a TR3

Yup. Have to make some minor mods, like new holes in the rear crossmember and some massaging of the transmission tunnel, but it works slick. If you keep the TR3 clutch, you'll also need to swap the

Correct. There is no plate on a TR3 (although there is on a TR6). What is different is only that the front flange of the TR6 transmission is thicker, so some of the fasteners need to be longer. It's

Sorry. I should have mentioned to avoid confusion, that I have a good a-type TR6 tranny and OD unit. I was just wondering if it would work in a TR3. Let me see if I understand. The shaft at the clutc

So if I use different fasteners between the transmission bell housing and the engine, the front connection should be OK. How much different is the mounting between the TR6 A-type overdrive and the TR

Right. I'm not sure of the measurements offhand, but ISTR I drilled two holes about 5/16" in diameter and about 5/8" farther back than the existing holes. Maybe someone else can chime in here ? It l

The exact dimensions of the difference isn't critical at this point. But the fact that it is different is important. But you say if different mounting holes are drilled into the frame it can work. Do

Just to be clear, the holes are not drilled into the frame. On a TR3, the rear crossmember is a separate piece, just a flat sheet of metal roughly 10" by 5". My personal opinion is that if you've ev

Hi Creig, I have a TR6 A-type OD trans in my TR3A. I love it. The TR6 trans is about 1/2" longer than the TR3 non-OD trans. I just elongated the rear mount holes as far back as I could and mounted it
