Got 4 Kumho Ecsta 711s put on the stock slicers the other day, I got 225/50/16s. Most people will go "that's too wide!" and in retrospect, they're right. Steering turn-in has gone to crap. I used to

225/50s and 225/55s are the same width........225mm. I'll assume you meant 255/50....that would be wide. 255/50 has a sidewall height of: 255 x .50 = 127.5mm 127.5 / 25.4 = 5.02" 225/55 has a sidewal

225's are definately too wide as the carcass distorts too much. Not only will cornering suffer, but the tires will run hot as well. A 6" rim is going to put the beads about 1/4" beyond their nominal

Holy crap, 255 would be untenable. No, I meant 225/50. Yes, no wider than 225/55, but the sidewall is shorter, therefore the angle between the tread shoulder and the rim is sharper, which means there

225 is just too wide for a 6" rim. 7.5" minimum, and 8" wide is best. Ron Porter --Original Message-- From: shotimes-admin@autox.team.net [mailto:shotimes-admin@autox.team.net] On Behalf Of Hartberge

I think the tire brand and design are also a factor. I have Kumho 712 tires, 235 on 7.5" rims and the fit and handling seem excellent to me, sidewalls are just about exactly vertical. VO -- Original

I agree that actual rim use *may* vary as different tires or brands have slightly different sidewall construction, but you can only put so much angle into the sidewall before the tire stops supportin

Nope. I first learned this a few years back on the 911, when I went from the 245/45/16 on 16x8 rims (I bought it with that) to a 225/50/16 on those rims. EVERYTHING improved. Look at the specs for mo

Also, using the same Yoko ES100 and TRs spec sheet: http://tinyurl.com/s79ct I would not put a 245 tire on anything less than a 9" rim.An 8" rim is the spec rim, but the 9" will be optimal. Ron Porte

None of that happens. FWIW, on the ES100, the 7" is not the "nominal" (whatever that means), it's the Spec width, which means that's the width that they use to measure the tire dimensions. Going to a

Well, if low cost is your absolute criteria. Kumhos, especially in the 225 size, must have attended the "BFG School of Heavy-Ass Tire Making", as they weigh a LOT. For not much more money, you can do
