As far as getting them off...take about a 4-6" bolt & put it through one of the engine plate holes...take a pry bar & wedge it between one of the ring gear teeth & the bolt...works great! I haven't

Stan is correct that dowels are sold & some people have used drill bits...myself included, but speaking from personal experience, dowels will fall out. The gearbox probably won't move, but it could.
