The only thing I know to do is readjust the mixture periodically as you climb. Count the flats as you lean it out (or un-richen) and reverse the process on the way back down and you should do fine.

It should be tight. It's possible that the tolerance ring (A little corrugated sleeve that makes the fan clutch a snug fit on the nose of the water pump puley) needs to be replaced, but I'm guessing
