- That is a very good question. The answer is--That depends on the rules of that particular race meeting. For the vast majority of professional and higher level club events (SCCA etc.) the race starts,

- When the green flag is displayed. Further, in SCCA, the pole-sitter does NOT set the pace - he must maintain the pace set by the pace car until the green flag is displayed. That might have helped the
