Yes, that's the way it's "supposed" to be, and yes with modern gasoline it does smell a bit. I've had trouble with fuel sloshing out the vent line, so I just capped it off on my car. All the filler

I just finished correcting the same smell problem on my TR-3. I experienced the smell after filling the tank. It turned out the problem was caused by loose clamps around the rubber connector between
