Hello all: I picked up my beat up 1971 TR6 this weekend. So far, I have a few questions I hope the collective whole might be able to answer: 1) How do you work the choke? 2) What are the three knobs

Use it only when you start the car cold. If everything is adjusted right you shouldn't need to use it when the engine is warm (at least I haven't on 10 + TR6's). The PO is correct about turning it t

Yet another question... What type of gas should I use in my "new"1971 TR6? Are there any additives I should be buying? It has the standard engine with the twin carbs. And what type of oil (20-50?)? T

The car was originally made to run on 99/100 octane. The only way to get that octane is to buy 100 low lead from an a local small airport. Of course, that gets expensive fast if you are driving it ev

Ahhh, but the method for reporting octane numbers changed some years ago. There are two methods for measuring octane rating, research and motor. One gives about a ten point or so higher rating than t

Don't worry about the octane rating. Use whatever you want, unless you get knocking. Then go up to the next grade. My '72 runs fine on 87 (regular in most places). I don't remember exactly, but your

Don't forget to turn the choke knob to the right if you want to leave it open, especially with cold starts. The shaft is knotched so that you can adjust the amount the choke is pulled out/pushed in a

This list is amazing. I have driven two different TR6's for over 14 years and have worked the choke thousands of times. I never knew that if you twist the knob clockwise, it would lock in position. T

Sorry to say, unless you can document that this TR6 has a high compression ratio, putting in high octane gas is a waste of money. Most TR6's (US federal versions) were lower than 8.0:1 ratio. Use re
