When I cut my studs down I used a cutoff tool and a lot of WD40 to cool the studs while cutting (2 person job with a fire extingusher along side). Studs are actually really easy to cut with a hacksaw

I'm guessing that you cant go cleaning off the pistons while they are still installed? Getting some of that carbon down on the sides for the piston rings to deal with would not be good I'm guessing.
