Ignition system just died. No spark. Checked the points, fine. Ran the tests from the haynes manual, here is what I get. Points open, SW (+) side of coil reads 12.67, CB (-) side of coil reads 12.67
Bad coil? With the points closed the reading between coil terminals should be zero, right? Cheers, Derf _______________________________________________ Edit your replies http://www.team.net/archive h
Try another coil. Also, check to make sure you have good engine ground. If that ground strap is gone, that could be your problem. Cheers, Derf _______________________________________________ Edit you
The points ground the coil, IIRC. I think with points closed you should get something very low on both sided of the coil. Is there a background story? Did someone leave the key on for a while with th
With the dizzy cap off, crank the engine to see if you have spark at the points. If there is spark at the points then you probably have a bad rotor. I've had several bad rotors right out of the box
Points closed voltage reading betwen coil terminals should be full system voltage. It should be zero across the points and zero also across the ignition switch. All of this assuming ignition switch
If you have push in dizzy wires, pull the #1 plug wire and stick the end into the coil. See if you get fire from the coil that way. Did you try a known good coil? ____________________________________
Let me elaborate. Pull the #1 plug wire. Push the end into the coil and keep the plug on the other end. Place the plug where you can see the gap and the base is touching the head. Turn over and check
Pulled the cap off, cranked the engine - plenty of spark. Of course, the only replacement part I don't have on hand is the rotor. _______________________________________________ Edit your replies htt
Having been through three bad rotors in the last two years I have started using the AIRTEX brand rotors and have not had a failure. I ordered them from rockauto.com ( do you have them Peter?) for a
Are you seeing a large spark/flash at the points when cranking? If so, have you tried replacing the condensor? _______________________________________________ Edit your replies http://www.team.net/ar
At Watkins Glen Zippo Grand Prix in early September, I had 2 rotors go bad.... and 1 after only 2 laps. There is some pretty poor material used in some of the rotors out there. They break down and th
Not a flash. More like a normal spark. And I did replace the condensor. Tomorrow the rotor. _______________________________________________ Edit your replies http://www.team.net/archive http://autox.
If it's made in Italy it's the same old Facet stuff...right Peter? One company makes them and 100 companies market them. You can't get a good product because the demand is too low for competition and
