I've never actually seen a Spitfire with the Commission Plate in the door frame area, all of my Spits have had it rivetted to the left hand side of the bulkhead. Is this one of those anomalies for th

That might very well be true. It would certainly explain why the holes on the cowl are still there even though the plate has been attached to the B post. My own experiences are mostly on US market c

I think that the commission plate was moved to the door frame when they started putting emissions equipment on. It's required to have a decal with the emission specs on it in the engine compartment,

Are we mixing up the commision number and the body serial number? My Mk IV has the commission number plate in the door frame, and a smaller body serial number plate riveted to the left-hand baulkhead
