I am under the impression that those things faded as they aged, turning them to what appears to be a gold color. The ones I have here are the same way. Please let me know if you find out differently.

You should be able to get them off intact but even if you break one or both pegs off, you can still use them again by applying 3M body trim tape. Actually, that is a better way to install those badge
