- I would use new clips, they are cheap. There is a special tool you can buy to install these clips but a front suspension shim ( the ones used on the lower wishbones ) turned upside down worked well

- BY FAR the easiest method is to find a complete transmission. I converted mine the hard way by adding it to the existing transmission. If you wish to use your existing tranny, there will be problems

- If it has reverse gear next to 3rd, It's a "J". A '76 model will always be a "J" unless someone has fitted the older "3 rail" type transmission to it, in which case it can be either "D" or "J". Look
