- Considering you are talking about a dipper type engine, severe dents in the oil pan could cause premature engine failure due to misaligned troughs &/or oil spouts. I would NOT run the engine at all,

- I've run the VOM across all of the terminals on the regulator. There is voltage at the battery terminal, even with the key off-don't know if this is correct. But there was also voltage on the armatur
