Sounds lie the coil might be degrading with heat. A static test of the coil may not show a fault. I would suggest replacing the coil with a known good coil. Alan S HBJ8L/34297

When you push the start button you activate the solenoid which is supposed to close contacts which then sends electrical current to the starter. The clicking you hear is the solenoid activation only
