- Do you mean casting number as in a number literally cast into the block, or is it a stamped serial number? Normally, the "FE" prefix would indicate an "emissions controlled" Spitfire Mk3 1296 engine.

- IMHO go to sears and buy an infrared temperature gun - make sure it has the laser pointer. They only get expensive if you have to read to 2000F. They are dirt cheap and once I purchased one I use it

- To Answer Bills Question, I do get improvement out of Lever Shocks. The Biggest thing in using the Dyno is making sure that one matches the other...and also in some cases moving the arms on the pivot
