Ack! I went to replace the starter on my '66 Spitfire when I noticed that there is a large gap between the engine plate and the clutch bell housing at the point where it bulbs out to fit the starter

According to Douglas Mitchell: Doug, how sure are you about this? I've gotten several responses saying that it is most likely bent from being dropped, etc... but it really doesn't look damaged to me,

First off, let me say that I checked my Illustrated Parts Breakdown last night, and there isn't any parts missing. To clarify my previous answer, I am assuming that Pat is refering to the gap on the

According to Douglas Mitchell: Good, thanks. Yes. The gap is unaffected by the starter being bolted on... It is just as you describe. Well, I feel pretty confident now that it is supposed to be there
