All series gearboxes are interchangeable, except OD and standard of course. But you can switch between the non-synchro 1st and the all synchro trannies. There is a date cast into the side of the box

I have a stock "T" and use small stainless steel clamps in it. Haven't had any trouble yet. You may find, however, such clamp hard to find. I got mine from Smitty. He hand makes them. CNA
