Hi Folks,
Just reworked the exhaust on my Dart which has a very mild 318 in it:
Machine work by Dick Ott, Assembly by Joshua Skinner:
- 0.030" Over 318 (322.5 Ci).
- Steel Crank, Stock Rods, KB Flat Top
- Pistons set to 0 Deck Hight.
- Edlebrock LD4B Intake/750 CFM 4160 Holley.
- Stock "302"/"swirl port" late 318 Heads.
- Stock '66 273 Manifolds/3" single exhaust.
- About 10.5:1 Compression (155 Psi cranking pressure
indicates its more like 9.5:1).
- Mechanical Cam by Oregon Cam Grinding, Inc.:
Intake Exhaust
Valve Lift 0.436" 0.436"
Advertised Dur: 2620. 2620.
Dur @ 0.05" Lift: 2190. 2190.
Lobe Sep: 1100.
Intake Center Line: 1060.
- Ran 14.6 sec @ 95 MPH
Got a FAX at work today from MPC showing the results from their SuperFlo
chassis dyno:

Old exhaust (Baselinr) was factory 66 A-body 273 Manifolds, Y-Pipe,
and 3" single exhaust with a glass pack and a turn-down just ahead
of the rear axle under the car, new exhaust is TTI step headers, 3"
in/2.5" out X-Pipe, dual 2.5" glass packs dumping out from under the
car just ahead of the rear wheels. Tuning changes on the dyno were
the following: Ignition: started at 36* total, ended up at 38* total;
Carb: started with 72 mains in the primarys, 76 mains in the secondarys
and a plug in the secondary power valve well in the metering block;
ended up with a secondary power valve and 68 mains all around. Based
on the A/F I could probably drop another jet size all around, but it
was a bad air day. The dyno operator said the new exhaust sounds
really mean on the dyno under load.
All the Best! Dave
