Ralph,
I've been running the Yoko A032R's for about two years now. Some of my good
buddies in the same club (CVAR) run the Kumho's. Other differences between
cars aside, the Yoko's and Kumho's seem to be pretty equal to each other in the
dry. However, the guys with the Kumho's will run circles around me in the wet.
We had a very wet fall meet this last year and I was white-knuckling and
tip-toeing around the course while they were blasting by me. When this set of
Yoko's is gone I'm switching to the Kumho's.
As for wear, I find that the Yoko's will last about half to 3/4 a season,
depending upon how much racing I do and where. Tighter courses (such as
Hallett in OK) are very hard on the tires, while a course like Road America
doesn't chew them up as badly. Talking to my buddies, the Kumho's certainly
don't seem to wear out any quicker, and might actually last longer.
You'll have to check local rules on the tires, of course, but I'm pretty sure
no vintage organization will let you run the Toyos or those Hoosiers.
By the way, we already have a 1972 racing Midget in our group named "Rusty." I
wonder why that is so common? ;-)

I am deciding on which tires to get. The rims will be 6" wide. I have a
round wheel arch Midget to run in SCCA., HSR & VDCA Vintage events.
Durability and wear are more important to me than ultimate stick.
185x60 Hoosier R3S03 $ 134
175x60 Kumho V700 Ecsta $ 85.00
175 x60 Yoko A032R $ 103
185x60 Toyo Proxes RA-1 $ 147
Budget wise, I would prefer the Kumhos or Yoko. Tires must be DOT. What
say ye !
