Standard electroplating can cause hydrogen imbrittlement if the plated
item is not treated properly after the plating.

electroless nickel does not create this problem, but it is also a fairly
dull or mat finish.

I have not read through all the 51 messages I have since returning from
abroad, so perhaps someone else has addressed the proper de-gassing of
plated control arms, etc.

Suffice it to say in initials a slow heat for a number of hours to
remove any hydrogen trapped under the plating, as I recall.
