Kevin Palmer asks about alternator pulley diameter.

I can't remember precisely what I switched the pulley from. But, I think it
was from the old generator. I switched from generator to alternator a few
years ago on my '66 MGB. And, now that I have an engine that I can shift at
7,000 rpm's when racing, it is more important than ever to have a larger
pulley on the alternator. In daily use on the street, I still get plenty of
voltage output. So, no drawback.

BTW, after searching the local parts stores for a small, light & compact
alternator, I ended up using one I had from a '69 MGB. Fried it within a
few months. Had it rebuilt with Japanese guts. Fried that in a year. Now
have a Lucas generator with Bosch guts. Best part of the Lucas case alt. is
that it's a bolt-on for the '66 B. No repositioning needed. But, when I
was running the cross-flow head, there was NO clearance between the inlet
manifold & the alternator. Well, maybe you could get a couple of pieces of
note paper in between. If I ever go back to that head, I'll have to do some
modification. Perhaps a different belt will do it.
