The 190SL was a bit of a pig, with far too much road hugging weight to ever do well in competition, vintage or otherwise. The engines are now expensive and difficult to power tune. If you want a race car in the 'solid' class, you'd do better to look at the Volvo P1800, which at least has a quite decent and tunable engine, and fairly readily available mechanical bits. IMHO.
