You need to find the essence of the smell of a well used but unrestored
older Brit-car. There is something about the leather, canvas, oil, grease
and gasoline over the years that has a aroma that is as distinct to me as
garlic.
Most unrestored/older restorations of <40 yr old Healeys/MGs/TRs/Jags do ...
When I smell it I'm immediately reminded of my MG-TC and TD I had years
ago.... The modern restorations just don't have that smell..Maybe it's the
real shellac, lacquer, and
castor oil..(or maybe it's just the smell of well-fried cloth-covered Lucas
wiring....:-) )

I have one can of the old Castrol bean oil, and have been thinking of what to
do with it (short of actually putting it in an engine - seems like a waste
since it will leak back out again). Incidentally, this is different from
Castor oil, which is used for freeing locked rear ends. Whenever my wife and
I go to antique malls there are dealers selling all manner of potpourie.
These smell like things my wife likes, for instance flowers, pine bark and
herbs. My idea is potpourie for car folks. A nice mixture of Castrol bean
oil, fiberglass resin and a fresh spray of Krylon semi-flat black.
Suggestions for future additions to the line?

Motor Oil - it's usually added as a top lube for methanol, but it'll sure
smell good coming out the tail pipes of your Morgans . . .
