Teflon(r) is really a class of fluropolomers made by the DuPont Company
with includes FEP, CTFE, TFE and others. In general Teflons have no
load operational temperatures between 350F and 500F. They do not have
particular good structural properties and tend to cold flow 264 psi heat
deflection is only about 150 to 220F
Delrin(r) is DuPont's Acetal product. It is only rated to 195F to 220F
for continuous use depending on the grade configuration but they do have
much better heat deflection properties 255 to 320F at 264 psi.
I would not consider using any of the Teflons for heavy duty frictional
applications at elevated tempurature unless the material was only part
fo the system. Acetals perform much better in most applications of this
type though with out knowing the details it is difficult to give
specific recomendations.
Additionally there are a number of other high performance engineering
polymers including PEEK, Polyimides, and others that could be condered
in high performance automotive applications.
