<<Seems like the sport of Vintage/Historic Racing, and certainly the
average =

owner/driver often looses more from running at big events rather than
gains. =

And that's without letting anyone encourage rough driving! These old cars=
, =

budgets, and drivers aren't up for it.

While Vintage/Historic events are great fun to attend & watch, the whole
nature =

of the beast is different from the fan series mentioned. There's no point=
s,
no =

championship, and no money to be won. These cars have done their time- th=

is =

supposed to be for fun!>>

Surely the ideal in any competition year is to have a balance between the=

BIG TIME events and the club stuff.

Few would challenge your contention that at the "properly promoted" event=
s
you get less track time and pay more for it. You probably also get a few=

more rewards:

* Getting some track time with some dream cars and drivers
* Better trophies, mementoes, etc
* Photos of the car in some of the magazines, TV etc

I'd love to run at Monterey again even though it cost the equivalent of a=

whole season's racing here in Australia, and I'm currently trying to work=

out how to get a start at Monaco in '99.

On the other hand I won't get a Chopard watch or a fully catered cocktail=

party at our club events but I just can't wait for our next race at the e=
nd
of this month when none of these will be featured!
