Agree completely with Myles that if you don't know the cars/drivers =
media packages are very useful - it does make life easier for those of =
us doing commentary. However, why do it solo? Some of the best media =
packages we get are from categories/clubs which explain what they are =
about in terms of the types of cars and profiles of cars and drivers.

The Marque Sports Car Association had an excellent loose leaf binder =
pack that they sent up to the commentary point at their last appearance =
at Wakefield Park - it covered the types of cars, particularly =
differentiating between the rule aspects for Division 1 and Division 2, =
and had notes on some of the drivers (particularly newer competitors, =
who would otherwise not have got a mention).

Appendix J Association of NSW sends out a driver/car profile form with =
the annual renewal letter. The profiles are held by the Club and a =
Committee member is designated the task of putting together a media pack =
with the appropriate profiles whenever the Club has cars racing at an =
event. Thus, Bob Asher (Club President) was able to take 35 Group N =
cars to Bathurst as a support category to the 2-litre Super Tourers 1000 =
Kms race and provide both the on-track commentary team and the =
television (Channel 7) commentary crew with a package that covered all =
cars and drivers, and, included a batch of colour photos of the cars at =
various events. Result was Bob was invited up to the commentary box, =
and, the cars got good on-track coverage.

Myles's final point about something to talk about or somebody to talk to =
is spot-on. Last Wakefield Park Open Race Meeting there was a 15-minute =
delay while a number of wrecked modern cars where being cleared from the =
track. We managed to get Jeremy Braithwaite up to the commentary box to =
talk about running an Historic Formula Ford at Bathurst against the =
modern Formula Fords - not just an opportunity to escape the sounds of =
silence, but also an opportunity to promote Historic concepts at a mixed =
category event.
