On this subject...
Summer of '95 at Portland, I ran the USRRC Seniors Tour race in the Cortina
in a torrential downpour (photos of Lake Edelbrock are still circulating).
From the other end of the pack, it was fun passing Can Am cars and big block
GT iron in the lowly Cortina. Although my tires weren't the best rain tires,
they, combined with the "rain line", worked well enough to get me third
overall, and 1st in U2GT. I, personally enjoy running in the rain in the
Cortina. Under those conditions, horsepower, torque, tires, trick
lightweight bits, and all the other expensive speed secrets are equalized!!

I should also add, however, that its not for everybody. At least 2 cars were
damaged in this race when they went off and contacted the wall or the armco.
If you have an opportunity to race in the rain, you should try
it....cautiously. With the appropriate amount of experience, skill, and
common sense applied, its a blast!!
