I am 70 and in IT. People always say that the young folk know all about co=
mputers and technology. They don't. I run circles around them and am con=
stantly amazed at how little they really know

An interesting query appropriate to the day. Only this afternoon, I was dri=
ving two grandsons (in teens) and with a same age friend home from school. =
On the way and stuck in traffic, I was asked if I thought smartphone techno=
logy was advantageous to my lifestyle. I said it wasn=92t, explaining I onl=
y use my phone to make and receive the occasional call or to send/receive t=
he even more occasional text. I don=92t use it for anything else and when u=
sing my mobility scooter in populated areas I tend to not avoid those who c=
an=92t walk anywhere unless they=92re glued to a handheld screen and oblivi=
ous to everything surrounding them. So I just drive at them because the sco=
oter has outstanding brakes. Twenty plus years ago, I refused to allow my c=
ompany provided car to be fitted with a car phone because driving in this o=
vercrowded island then demanded total attention at all times. It=92s even w=
orse now. My boss and his boss were of the same view so I was =91protected=
=92 from those who held divergent opinions. Some years later, i had a colle=
ague who never answered his employer provided smartphone if he was driving =
and would throw it out of the window whenever it rang. He got through a lot=
of phones in the course of a year until it was decided to give him a telep=
hone credit card instead.
But I=92m not totally resistant to technology and spend a lot of time writi=
ng on my laptop. In fact, I=92ve got my second Life at Triumph book almost =
ready for publication but I just can=92t get my head around the technology =
provided by Amazon and Kindle. Each time I try, everything goes =93tits up=
=94 and I manage to blow a memory somewhere.
Perhaps little Poppy, my three year old grand-daughter could help there? M=
ost kids of almost any age have forgotten more than I=92ve ever learned on =
the cyber tech front so maybe I=92ll ask Poppy for her help?

To be honest I read so many posts on it covering a plethora of subjects - =
the majority of which were unsolicited and I=92m now SO glad to be rid of t=
he damned thing and I certainly won=92t be going there again. This list may=
not be as heavily trafficked as it was 20 plus years ago but I still prefe=
r it to other web based alternatives that are clunky to navigate and genera=
lly rather boring.
