I have used what the hardware store calls =E2=80=9Chardware wire=E2=80=9D =
which has a mesh of 1/2=E2=80=9D by 1/2=E2=80=9D to protect a front =
mounted oil cooler. Bad things happen when a rock hits an oil cooler.
