Friends,
Years ago (mid 70=E2=80=99s) I was given a TR6 with a blown engine. =
Didn=E2=80=99t know why the engine had gone bad. The previous / =
previous owner had taken it to shop for some reason and they did a Valve =
Job. A friend bought it and we swapped some stuff and I ended up with =
the car. Pulled the engine and found the rod bearings badly worn, one =
was blue from heat and at least 1 rod needed re-sized along with a crank =
regrind. Put it all back together, fired it up and began driving it. =
Checked the oil a week later and it was UP not down. Smelled it and =
strong gasoline smell. Turns out the cause of everything was a stock =
fuel pump; pumping gas into the crankcase and thinning the oil. Promptly =
replaced the pump with a new stock one and drove the car for several =
months until I sold it. I had my 4A and didn=E2=80=99t need 2 =
TR=E2=80=99s at the time. I liked that car but it was starting to rust =
in all the logical places. Moral is smell your oil every time you check =
it.

Dennis,
I know this issue has been thrown around since the lists started but why =
not convert to an electronic pump? I have been running an electronic =
pump on my 3 for 20 years, my 4 for 15 and my 6 for 10. Zero issues. And =
no oil leaks from the pump or where it attaches to the block. No worry =
