That photo is certainly different, and I don't think would work properly in
a TR thermostat housing.  The wax pellet (darker brass housing in the
center) needs to be on the engine side of the thermostat so it senses the
water temperature inside the engine; and the TR bypass is on the same side
(which is more or less where it has to be to bypass the thermostat).

I could be mistaken, but I believe what appears to be the sleeve in that
photo is actually the water valve, not intended to block off a bypass.  I
use a somewhat similar unit from Robert Shaw (when I can find them):
