If you do not have a variable DC power supply, I wonder if it would work to
add D-cell batteries (1.5 V) in series, gradually, to step up 3 to 4.5, to 6 V
etc? In series would be like they are stacked in a flashlight handle, nose to
tail, or rather pos to neg.
