I just finished lapping my own valves on my TR3. new valves old head.
used my 30 year old lapping tool. always worked well before. did not let me  
down this time. after lapping I filled the ports full of gas. no leaks from 
the  valves.
takes about 5 min's per valve from new.
still making the tool. check out page 26 in this catalogue
