[TR] complete welding vs. spot welding & seam sealer?

Is it really any better to completly weld in the the outside perimeter of the
battery box (observing necessary cooling down periods to avoid the heat from
warping things) vs. spot welding it's perimeter and then using some product
like seam sealer to keep out the water.
