Hi,
I have low compression in #1 cylinder (100lbs Vs 145-148 lbs in #2, #3 and #4).
With the valve cover removed, I see that I have a heavily coked exhaust valve
spring and cap at #1. This indicates ignited gases passing past the exhaust
valve, so I'm after getting the head off....for the first time, for me.
State of play so far: with the rocker arm and manifolds removed, and hoses
disconnected, I managed to remove 9 head nuts and only one nut & stud. Now I am
trying to get the head off. And am stuck (or at least the head is stuck).
Can anyone help with advice born of skinned knuckles and hard experience pass
on some wisdom to help me get this head off? I've tried some wood-softened
blows with a hammer, laterally.
It would be much appreciated and I can then stop swearing and cussing in the
garage.
With the head off - I'll then see the amount of valve damage and what I'll need
to do next beyond a new set of valve springs.
Thanks,
Brian in Valley Forge
