But very few of them say "magnafluxed for cracks".

Someone on this list, maybe Rob Blubaugh (who is no longer here), reported
going through a whole stack of heads being sold at auction, and finding that
most of them were cracked.

For a price, of course.  Buying a $3000 head for a $10,000 car may seem a
bit extreme to some.

It might be worth commenting, though, that a crack does not necessarily make
a head unusable.  Many of them crack in the area between #2 and #3 liners
where it makes no difference at all.

I've likewise got a modest stash.

Ironically enough, I never had trouble with valve seat recession ... until I
had hardened seats installed !  Still don't know why that is, but likely it
was because I switched to "racing" valve springs as well.
