Hello, everyone,
I've done the archive search, but am not having luck lately. I've gotten
nearly 500 hundred miles of smooth-as-silk running out of my TR3 following
lengthy restoration.
I think of the first 500 hundred miles as the time to re-torque the head,
reset the valve clearances and change oil for the first time after a rebuild.
But this is not the same as breaking in an engine, which I'm thinking is about
2,000 miles of shifting at 3 grand and keeing top speed under 60-65.
After 2000 miles, I'll be playing it (debatably) "safe" to switch from
Valvoline straight 30 weight to synthetic 20-50 racing oil under the
assumption that the rings have set.
That sound about the right time frame? ...Or am I over-safe, and break in is
really just the 500 miles?
Oh, man, there is just so much power under the hood that I can't wait to
unleash!
