No, yes and YES!
Actually, the main advantage to AC is the ease that the voltage can be
transformed. A simple transformer will convert lower voltage to higher voltage
for
long distance distribution and the transformed back to lower voltage for use
by the consumer. With this handy advantage power generation could now be
consolidated into large, centralized plants instead of widely distributed
neighborhood plants in YOUR back yard.
